200 Club

Charles Byrne took over The 200 Club in 1974 from the late Frank Whelan and invented the ‘score-prize' principle whereby weekly prizes were awarded to members, based on their ‘code letters' corresponding to match scores. Later came the International Forecast Competition, (known today as the Six Nations Competition), for the Club and national rugby writers and media. At the annual Leprechaun Lunch , a trophy (by Bonar Dunlop) and a case of Jameson whiskey (donated by Irish Distillers) would be presented to the winner.

After a 4-year gap, these activities were revived for season 2002/03 with considerable success on which we need to build. Charles (Honorary Life Member) continues as Honorary Secretary reflecting a remarkable commitment of over 30 years to London Irish. Particular responsibilities are:

  • Recruitment of new members and administration of the Monthly Score Prize – This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
  • The Six Nations Forecast competition – Jimmy Reilly and This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
  • The press Six Nations Forecast and Leprechaun Lunch – John Walsh and Frank McCartney

The 200 Club continues to be an important source of revenue to help fund the amateur activities and we are always delighted to welcome new members and existing (paid-up) members of LIARFC prepared to make an on-going additional subscription to the club.
